NDIS Challenges
The NDIS budget is blowing out massively. Under the current trajectory, the cost of the NDIS will reach $97 billion by 2032-33. Even with Albo’s plans to reign it in we are still looking at, as a nation a $50 billion program by 2032-33. This rapid growth, in part is attributable to the growth in the ‘Plan Manager’ industry - a cash cow for many of those operating in this space.
The large proportion of participants that rely on Plan Mangers represents an opportunity for any business that can either: Encourage participants to take up self-managed plans OR generate significant efficiencies in the way ‘Plan Managers’ do their jobs.
Apheleia is building a marketplace, booking system and fund optimiser that allows everyone involved with the NDIS (be they plan managers or participants) to reduce friction associated with procurement and delivery of services. Currently, there are many ‘Plan Managers’ in the system that operate on models that are not sustainable, using outdated or inefficient methodologies and systems for procuring services. The lack of a quality NDIS marketplace leads plan managers and participants to forums and social networks like Facebook in often desperate attempts to connect with the stakeholders they need. All of this inefficiency represents an opportunity to connect businesses and participants in a way that is as simple as we expect in 2023.
